-  His textbook Principles of Fluorescence Spectroscopy, initially published in 1983, went on to become the standard work in this field in the years that followed, with the third edition (5th corrected print 2010) appearing by 2006.

 

-In addition, he founded the Journal of Biomedical Optics and the Journal of Fluorescence.

 

-Stefan Hell was one of the co-authors. He invented STED microscopy at the time, which he was able to accomplish experimentally for the first time in 1999.
